About the club

The Soccer Club of Rockford (SCOR) is a non-profit soccer organization formed in 1996 to provide additional playing opportunities and experience to players looking for a higher level of soccer coaching and competition.

MISSION

Our mission is to foster player development and physical, mental and emotional growth through first-rate coaching and high-level competition for players with the skills, playing abilities and interest to participate in this accelerated level of play.

THE CLUB

SCOR relies heavily upon volunteers and encourages parental involvement. Our governing board and coaching staff make a substantial commitment of their time and energy, and we request an equal level of commitment from our players and parents. The Director of Coaching (DOC), a nationally licensed coach, directs the SCOR coaching staff. All SCOR coaches are USSF licensed and must undergo a State of Michigan background check to receive their required Risk Management Card.

SCOR teams play in the Grand Valley Soccer Association (GVSA) and the Michigan State Premier Soccer League (MSPSL), which are affiliated with the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA). SCOR complies with the rules and regulations of the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) and United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

SCOR offers teams for boys and girls from the U8 (under 8) to U19 levels, as participation demands. All teams are formed on the basis of annual tryouts, which are held in June and are open to everyone. For U8 through U14 teams, the club commitment starts in August and ends the following June. Our fall schedule consists of eight league games starting the weekend after Labor Day. The spring schedule includes eight league games from April through early June. A weekend tournament is also included in the annual schedule. The U8 teams do not participate in a weekend tournament, as most tournaments do not offer a bracket for that age group.

High school aged players (U15-U19) play a one-season schedule opposite the appropriate Michigan High School soccer season. Girls will play club soccer in the fall, as Michigan High School girls’ soccer is played in the spring, and boys play club soccer in the spring, as Michigan High School boys’ soccer is played in the fall.

Most teams practice twice a week for 1½ - 2 hours at a time, and some may practice more. Practice days, times and length are set by the individual coaches. Most games are played on Saturdays but some can occur on Sundays. The club offers a professionally staffed summer camp and schedules indoor training sessions during the off-season. In the winter months, many of our teams also play indoor soccer or train together in some form.

Players are required to try out for a team every year in June.  A player’s age bracket is defined by the player’s age on July 31.  Every attempt is made to insure that tryouts are held in an impartial manner. More than one team may be formed in an age bracket if the head coach, Director of Coaching and the SCOR Board feel that sufficient players and coaches are available to form two or more competitive teams. Likewise, a team may not be formed for an age bracket if the number and quality of players trying out does not warrant formation of a team.
